Ginkgo Biloba and Ginseng are commonly used together because of their ability to enhance the properties of one another, particularly regarding cognitive performance and memory. Both ingredients also show antioxidative properties.
Ginseng
Ginseng is sourced from the Panax ginseng plant which belongs to the Araliaceae family. The root resembles the figure of a man, believed to have been sent to mankind as a gift from an ancient deity – only those deemed worthy were able to find the golden root. The root is the most commonly used part of the plant due to its nutritional properties. Ginsenosides are the active ingredients in the root which are linked to several health benefits including the production of energy to prevent fatigue, producing a calming effect when stressed. The plant is also connected to improvements of the cognitive system and enhancing performance levels, increasing the breakdown of lactic acid and helping the metabolism of carbohydrates and sugar.
Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo Biloba is otherwise known as the Maiden Hair tree or simply Ginkgo, Ginkgo Biloba is a slow-growing, deciduous tree that can reach heights of up to 25m. The seeds, leaves and bark were traditionally used in Chinese medicine, and now the beneficial properties of the seeds have travelled across to the Western world. The seeds contain two active ingredients called ginkgolides and bilobalide which aid blood circulation to the brain, leading to increased concentration and cognitive function.
